Literature approaches and literary materials have recently gained a considerable status in TEFL. They have proved to incorporate authentic and novel characteristics in language teaching. This paper has investigated the impact of Maley’s literature approaches to General and ESP courses in Farhangian University. The research design was a quasi-experimental one. The subjects, aged 18-22, were 120 to-be- teacher students in Farhangian University in Ilam. The features of Maley’s two approaches, the selected literary materials including two short stories, and an academic General and ESP textbook were utilized during the treatment which lasted 16 weeks. After the collection and codification of the data, they were analyzed using SPSS package. The results revealed that Maley’s literature-based teaching approaches proved to be impressive in the performance of the students. It also became clear that Maley’s CLA approach best worked with the ESP courses and Maley’s SLA approach was best impressive in General courses. The incorporation of Maley’s selected approaches in the respective ESP and General courses in Farhangian and other academic settings on the line of the introduced academic courses are strongly suggested. |
