Artificial Intelligence in English Language Education: A Novel Approach to Enhancing Learning Outcomes
Abstract
The present study aimed to systematically review educational interventions utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools in English language teaching and learning. A systematic literature review was conducted by searching relevant keywords related to AI and English language education in prominent global academic databases, including PubMed, Springer, ProQuest, Scopus, Elsevier, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, covering the years 2020 to 2025. The collected data were analyzed using the PRISMA framework. The findings revealed that, among the 25 reviewed studies, the majority (20 studies) focused on improving English language instruction, with 18 studies specifically addressing language skill enhancement. Speech recognition technology was the most commonly utilized AI model, appearing in 15 studies. Furthermore, AI-assisted technologies were employed in 18 studies. The results consistently demonstrated that AI tools play a significant role in enhancing the processes of English language teaching, learning, and skill development.
