Artificial Intelligence (AI) has recently sparked considerable discussion among educators regarding its implications for EFL instruction. This study adopts a survey study with a researcher-made questionnaire on EFL teachers’ perceptions of AI in EFL instruction. The obtained data from a questionnaire administered to an available sample of 25 Iranian male and female high school EFL teachers of varying educational backgrounds and experiences revealed the basic AI features, opportunities, and challenges as well as significantly positive perceptions of the efficacy of AI-based EFL instruction. However, significant concerns emerged regarding data privacy. A majority of participants also expressed uncertainty about AI’s role in promoting equitable access to educational resources, highlighting critical gaps that require attention. The study emphasizes the need for teacher training programs catering for enhancing AI literacy and applying it in EFL classroom. A thoughtful AI approach can enhance teaching effectiveness and address ethical concerns, creating a better educational environment. The findings offer insights for policymakers, teacher educators, and curriculum developers about the role of AI in EFL instruction. |
