Exploring the Impact of AI-Generated Multimedia Content on EFL Learners' Motivation And Engagement : A Classroom-Based Study in Marand, Iran

This study explores the impact of AI-generated multimedia content on the motivation and engagement of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners in Marand, Iran. By employing a quasi-experimental design, 20 intermediate-level students aged 14 to 19 were divided into control and experimental groups to assess the effects of AI tools in comparison to traditional teaching methods. The experimental group engaged with interactive AI-generated content, while the control group received conventional instruction. Data collection included pre- and post-intervention questionnaires and classroom observations.
Findings revealed that students exposed to AI tools exhibited a significant increase in motivation (mean score improvement from 3.45 to 4.12, p < 0.001), higher engagement levels (78% actively engaged, p < 0.01), and greater satisfaction with the learning experience (mean score 4.35, p < 0.001). These outcomes underscore the potential of AI-generated multimedia to create dynamic, personalized, and interactive learning environments.
While the study highlights the benefits of AI integration in enhancing EFL instruction, it also raises concerns about over-reliance on technology and the importance of maintaining meaningful teacher-student interactions. The research contributes to the growing body of literature on educational technology by addressing its application in non-Western contexts, emphasizing the need for further studies to examine its long-term impact and broader applicability.
