Students' Perceptions of Grammar Learning: Comparing AI-Generated Songs and Animations with Traditional Teaching Methods

The present study aimed to investigate students' perceptions of grammar learning through AI-generated songs and animations compared to traditional teacher-centered methods. The participants were 60 highschool students from a school in Ardabil, all of whom had previously experienced traditional grammar instruction. The study employed a within-subjects design, where each student received both traditional grammar lessons and lessons taught using AI-generated songs and animations, with a gap between the two teaching methods to allow for a comparison of perceptions.

The AI-based method utilized an inductive learning approach, incorporating songs and animations to create an engaging, interactive, and enjoyable learning environment. In contrast, the traditional method followed a more passive, teacher-centered approach, characterized by direct instruction and rote memorization. Data were collected through surveys and semi-structured interviews, focusing on students' engagement, enjoyment, and motivation.

The findings revealed that students reported significantly higher levels of engagement, motivation, and enjoyment when learning grammar through AI-generated songs and animations compared to the traditional method. Many students found the interactive nature of AI lessons made grammar more approachable and enjoyable, leading to greater achievement in mastering grammatical concepts. In contrast, the traditional method was often seen as soporific and monotonous, with students expressing frustration with the passive, teacher-centered style.

These results suggest that AI-generated content fosters a more dynamic, motivating learning environment, helping students better engage with and retain grammar concepts. The study highlights the potential of AI to enhance grammar teaching and inform more interactive, student-centered classrooms.
