چکیده مقاله |
In recent years, identifying effective approaches for vocabulary instruction has been the main concern of many researcher teachers. This study aimed to explore the effect of integrating non-text elements on the development of high schoolers’ vocabulary acquisition. To this end, 49 female 12th-grade students were selected using the convenience sampling method and assigned to two control (n=25) and experimental (n=24) groups. Both groups were exposed to an identical vocabulary list; however, the control group received traditional vocabulary teaching methods, devoid of non-text elements. In contrast, the experimental group was instructed employing the REACT strategy (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, Transferring) with the aid of non-text elements such as emojis, drawings, doodles, and pictures. The data collection methods were semi-structured oral interviews and comparative observations. The findings revealed that (1) non-text elements significantly enhanced student motivation and active participation in learning activities, and (2) visual representations facilitated deeper memory retention and prolonged recall of vocabulary items. These results underscore the pedagogical value of non-text elements, suggesting that educators at all levels should adopt visual and interactive strategies to make vocabulary learning more effective and impactful. |
