چکیده مقاله
For all their brevity and compactness, journal article titles are quite telling in how the scholars working within a given discipline conceive of certain phenomena and they reflect the emerging trends in how the events in a field play out. To probe into how applied linguists view the various AI-related actors and human agents in the field of AI in Language Education (AILED), 112 journal paper titles, published in applied linguistics top journals between 2023 (following the landmark event of the release of Chat-GPT by OpenAI) and 2025, were collected as the data of the present research. To help analyze the data, a mix of content and discourse analytic procedures was applied to them to see what dominant representational patterns might emerge vis-a-vis the nature of the interaction between human and machine agents. It was found that the data reflected a mostly human-centric or collective view of AI technology highlighting an assistive-tool view of its affordances, and that humans were discursively shown to be beneficiaries and even manipulators of the new AI resources. Implications of the study for educator AI literacy are finally considered.
