Vocabulary learning success among Iranian EFL Learners’ using Artificial Intelligence – Based Application

Vocabulary retention has a crucial role in learning a foreign language. Specialist suggest many different techniques for vocabulary learning, and artificial intelligence based application is one of them. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of artificial intelligence based application on Iranian EFL Learners’ vocabulary learning. To achieve the intended purpose, 30 intermediate-level EFL learners from one of the Shahrekord , Iran, language institutes were selected randomly and participated in this study. First, a standardized test was administered to ensure the participants were homogeneous in terms of language proficiency and they were divided to two groups: experimental and control. A pre-test and a post-test were then used to ascertain whether artificial intelligence based application could improve vocabulary learning in English as a Foreign Language. The score obtained from two groups were analyzed through Mann-Whitney Test. Results revealed that the experimental group performed better than the control group in the final test administered. Studies like the current are more significant for teachers and curriculum developers to use artificial intelligence based application in order to improve the learning process quality.
