چکیده مقاله
Technological literacy has emerged as an essential competency of the 21st century that enables individuals to proficiently acclimatize to the digital milieu with greater efficacy. This study explored and compared the representation of technology in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) textbooks used in Chinese and Iranian high schools, focusing on its role as a 21st-century skill. By analyzing both the prevalence of technology-related content in the texts and illustrations of these textbooks and the degree to which these textbooks engage learners in the proactive utilization of technology, the research sought to illuminate disparities in curricular development between the two countries. The analysis of the texts and illustrations of these textbooks revealed that Chinese EFL textbooks demonstrated a significantly greater frequency of technology representation compared to their Iranian counterparts. Furthermore, the findings indicated that Chinese EFL textbooks more effectively involved learners in the active use of technology for completing tasks. In contrast, Iranian EFL textbooks neglected to provide opportunities for learners to use technology. The findings suggested that while both sets of textbooks attempt to engage with technology representations, the Iranian EFL textbooks, in particular, require further development to offer technological integration in language education. This would guide future curriculum development endeavors to enhance students' competencies in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
