An approach to artificial intelligence in language teaching

This research is an approach to Artificial Intelligence as an issue that is becoming a trend in English language teaching. Its importance is increasing given the effect of the rapid development in the field of programming languages, computing and communication, which produces new applications (apps) that make everyday life easier. This in turn leads to new ways of acting, teaching and learning. Technological development has always been present in language teaching and what is now going on enhances the possibilities for teachers. Institutions are already attending to this development in the field of English as first or second language teaching. This article addresses the need to develop tools that can support students in their learning and acquisition process of English and offers some examples from the way current sources of reference work, such as the dictionaries.
In the field of teaching-learning of foreign languages, teachers have always used the technologies of the moment. With the emergence of the printing press, books were used for many years. In the modern era, sound and image players (recorders, projectors, video recorders, television and cinema) have been used until the arrival of computers, teaching platforms and apps (applications). According to Pérez Orozco (2018), the development of technology is producing a new type of intelligence, which is added to human intelligence: the so-called “artificial intelligence”, based on “machines that learn”.
