A Comparative Study on the Contribution of Collaborative Learning and AI-based Learning of the Content, Attitudes in Focus

Collaborative content learning (CCL), as a process of learning that contributes to effective learning of the content of the courses in EFL contexts, has recently gained prominence in the research literature. In addition, artificial intelligence(AI)-based learning refers to educational approaches and systems that utilize artificial intelligence technologies to enhance the learning experience is a very new strategy for learning in the educational context. This quantitative study was conducted among EFL students at the BA level selected based on convenience sampling. It was an attempt to investigate the participants’ attitudes towards the effectiveness of collaborative content learning and also AI-based content learning. To this end, 60 male and female participants in the BA program participated in the study. Attitudes toward the contribution of the CCL questionnaire and attitudes towards the AI-based learning questionnaire were used to meet the objectives of the study. The findings of the quantitative data showed that the majority of the learners had positive attitudes towards the efficacy of CCL, especially, in terms of negotiation and problem-solving. In addition, the learners’ positive attitudes toward the efficacy of AI-based learning were categorized under three main facets including comfort, ease, and trust. The findings of the study suggest the beneficial role of CCL and AI-based learning in raising students’ awareness of skillful collaboration for maximum learning of the content and for their making use of technology to enhance learning.
