A Comparative Study on the Contribution of Traditional and AI-Based Lesson Plans: Focusing on Speaking Scores in EFL Classes

This comparative study investigated the impact of traditional lesson plans versus AI-based lesson plans on speaking scores in an EFL classroom. The primary aim was to determine which method more effectively enhances students’ speaking abilities. The research adopted a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative analysis of student performance data and qualitative interviews with teachers. This research was conducted over a semester with two groups of intermediate-level EFL learners. One group followed traditional lesson plans, while the other utilized AI-driven lesson plans designed to adapt to individual learner needs. Data was collected through pre- and post-tests, as well as weekly speaking assessments. The findings suggest that integrating AI into lesson planning can enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning. Educators are encouraged to consider the potential benefits of AI-based lesson plans while also recognizing the value of traditional methods. The results indicate that students in the AI-based lesson plan group showed a statistically significant improvement in speaking scores compared to the traditional lesson plan group. These findings suggest that AI-driven lesson plans can provide a more personalized and effective approach to language learning, ultimately leading to better speaking proficiency in EFL learners. The implications of this study highlight the potential for AI technologies to develop efficient lesson plans, focusing on speaking skills improvement.
